Roberta Abraham was the Band Director at Pioneer Middle School and District Music Supervisor. She succumbed to MLS way too early. This scholarship was created in her memory. The funds go towards the cost of private lessons for these students to further their music education for the benefit of Walla Walla Public Schools!

About the Roberta Abraham Scholarship

Roberta Mae Cochran was born November 15th, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Jesse and Mabel Cochran. She attended & graduated in 1942 from Washburn High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She then received her Bachelors of Music Education in 1948 from MacPhail College of Music. Roberta married Dale Abraham on June 10th, 1950 in Hennepin, Minnesota. They had one daughter named Jill.

Roberta helped establish the Walla Walla Public Schools District Band, Choir, and Orchestra Festivals in the early 1970s with Glen Mitchell. She taught at Pioneer Middle School as Band Director starting in 1963 and she continued until January 1977.

Roberta passed away on January 11th, 1978 from Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Roberta Abraham Scholarship was created in her honor to fund private lessons, promoting equity for all students wanting to further their music education & skills as musicians.”
